Sayana®Press is a Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC) injection that gives you 13 weeks of effective contraception.
Sayana®Press may be administered by a Health Care Professional (HCP) or when considered appropriate by the HCP, self-injected by the patient. Medical follow up is necessary in accordance to the guidance of the local clinic.
Sayana®Press being a progestin only contraceptive works by blocking the action of estrogen. It thus prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg during the menstrual cycle and if no egg is released, it cannot be fertilized by sperm and result in a pregnancy.
Sayana®Press also causes changes in the lining of the womb which makes it less likely for a pregnancy to occur. Lastly by thickening the mucus at the entrance of the womb it makes it more difficult for sperm to get through.
