JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Sales Representative will be responsible for the promotion, distribution, and medical detailing of DKT’s range of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) products to private health facilities, private healthcare providers, pharmacies, and retail outlets in the assigned geographical region.

DKT’s Zambia portfolio currently includes Kiss Condoms (Classic, Studded, Strawberry, and Extra Time variants), Lydia Postpill (emergency contraceptive), MaKare (combined oral contraceptive), and InjectaFem (injectable contraceptive), with additional product launches planned in 2026.

The Representative will identify and coordinate with target outlets and service providers to ensure that DKT products are in high demand. He/she will ensure that providers understand the benefits, correct use, and appropriate dispensing of DKT products and are motivated to recommend and stock them in their facilities.

Responsibilities

Sales Achievement

Including but not limited to;

  • Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the assigned territory.
  • Achievement of the annual revenue target.
  • Ensure healthcare providers/outlets representatives in the territory are familiar with DKT products and know where to purchase/source them (DKT-appointed wholesalers and distributors).
  • Maximize distribution and reach by identifying and onboarding new customers as required.
  • Ensure regular sale and distribution of DKT health products to private healthcare providers, pharmacies, wholesale and retail outlets in the territory.
  • Adhere to all DKT sales policies and procedures.
  • Ensure availability and visibility of all product categories across the customer base in the assigned zone.
  • Ensure that indirect sales staff (distributors, wholesalers, and their sales teams) are motivated and properly trained on DKT products, particularly those targeted to healthcare providers (Lydia Postpill, MaKare, and InjectaFem).

Brand and Product Detailing

  • Carry out highly effective medical detailing to private health facilities, pharmacies, midwives, doctors, clinical officers, and nurses to promote DKT’s brands, with a primary focus on Lydia Postpill, MaKare, and InjectaFem.
  • Drive Kiss Condoms awareness, visibility, and shelf off-take across pharmacy and retail channels in the territory.
  • Communicate accurately to customers about DKT products, including indications, mode of action, and correct use.
  • Ensure the distributor salesforce is knowledgeable about DKT pharmaceutical products and provide training and coaching on product detailing as needed.
  • Effectively use medical detailing job aids to promote product benefits and ensure appropriate use and dosage by end users.
  • Effectively use and roll out point-of-sale materials (POSM) and merchandise to create brand and product awareness.

Territory Management

  • Develop and maintain customer relationships in the assigned area.
  • Coordinate meetings, gatherings, and workshops for target clients to deliver product knowledge orientation sessions and CME-style training.
  • Identify gaps in DKT product distribution and reach, and propose plans to deepen penetration in the territory, with a focus on ethical/healthcare-provider driven products.
  • Visit customers and healthcare providers according to the established route plan agreed with the Business Development/Sales Consultant.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date database/customer list of all private healthcare providers and private health facilities in the area.
  • Achieve highly effective and productive call rates against the monthly route plan.
  • Support and participate in DKT trade marketing, branded activations, and consumer-facing campaigns (e.g., the Sex Mobile van activation, health expos, traditional ceremonies).
  • Monitor and report on compliance with the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) at the pharmacy and retail levels.

Reporting

Submit the following reports to the Business Development/ Sales Consultant according to established timelines:

  • Area coverage plans.
  • Daily and weekly call reports.
  • Weekly target vs. achievement.
  • Monthly target vs. achievement.
  • Point-of-sale and promotional material use reports.
  • Competitor and market intelligence updates.
  • Travel and expense claims.

Qualification, skills & competencies

  • A business degree or a science-related field (such as Pharmacy, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Biological Sciences, or a similar discipline).
  • Working knowledge of family planning and reproductive health products, as well as the Zambian private health sector, is a strong advantage.

  • Proficiency in English and any other local languages
  • Post-graduate certification in Sales & Marketing will be an added advantage, but is not mandatory
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in the sales/marketing/detailing of pharmaceutical products
  • Valid Zambian driver’s license (preferred).
