Job summary
An Accounts Payable Intern will provide essential clerical and administrative support to the finance department while gaining practical exposure to real-world financial processes. This entry-level role is ideal for current students or recent graduates pursuing a career in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
Key Relationships
Across the organization maintain effective communication with all departments, especially with Procurement, Sales, Programs, Marketing and HR & Admin.
Role & responsibilities
Including but not limited to;
- Invoice Processing: Assist in receiving, verifying, and capturing vendor invoices into the accounting system (e.g., SAP)
- Three-Way Matching: Support the matching of invoices against Purchase Orders (POs) and Goods Received Notes (GRNs) to confirm accuracy before processing payments
- Reconciliation Support: Assist in reconciling vendor statements with internal records and investigate discrepancies
- Record Maintenance: Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems to ensure documents are properly stored and audit ready
- Vendor Communication: Respond to basic vendor queries regarding payment status, under supervision of the finance team
- Month-End Support: Support preparation of schedules and documentation required for month-end and year-end closing processes
- Banking Support: Assist with basic banking activities such as preparing payment documentation and supporting transaction tracking
Key Performance Indicators:
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Timeliness in preparation of finance related documents
- Accuracy of inventory postings and finance records
Qualification, Skills & Competencies
- Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Bcom (Finance Option), or a related field.
- CPA or ACCA is an added advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, formulas, sorting, and reporting)
- Willingness and ability to learn ERP systems
- High attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial records
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work under supervision and meet deadlines
